30 Mar 2005 Wednesday (Day 02 of 4th quarter) Create a new website today. Click here to read about starting a new website using Microsoft Front Page with Windows XP. Follow the instructions to create your new website. After following the hyperlink to the instruction page leave the page open but reduce it so you can refer back to the page as needed.
31 Mar 2005 Thursday (Day 03 of 4th quarter) By now you should have created a new website. Your website should have an Index page, a Home page, and an About Me page. You have learned how to create a hyperlink, and how to change the background color of your web page. Today you will create a new page by left clicking on the New Page icon that is located at the far left hand side of the toolbar. Right after creating the page, type "My Class Schedule" on the top of the page and center it. Change the font size to 24 point bold red font, then save it using [Save As] with a name of My_Class_Schedule. Use the underscore. Once you have saved this new page, close it and open your About Me page. In your About Me page add the words "My Class Schedule", highlight those words and make them into a hyperlink that will go to the My_Class_Schedule page. Move the mouse pointer until it is over the new hyperlink. Next, while holding down the Control key, click on the new hyperlink with the left mouse button to advance to the new My_Class_Schedule page. On the My_Class_Schedule page you will enter a list of your classes, including the period number. Also enter your homeroom, and lunch, in the correct order. Next you will create a new web page, using the New Page icon, for each of your classes including homeroom and lunch. Use the class name for the name of the page or use the period to create a page name like Period1. Create hyperlinks to each new page from the My_Class_Schedule page. On each new page type some information about each class, including the class name, the teacher's name, and the room number. Select a different background color for each of your class pages.

5) Homeroom page (Contains information homeroom. Room number, teacher, etc.)
6) Period 1 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
7) Period 2 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
8) Period 3 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
9) Period 4 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
10) Period 5 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
11) Lunch Page (Contains information about lunch)
12) Period 6 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
13) Period 7 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
14) Period 8 page (Contains information about the class. Room number, teacher, etc.)
Remember that each of your individual class pages is to have a different background color. Choose a font color that will be visible with the chosen background color.
Today you will make sure that all of these pages are in your website and that each page has the required information. Once all the required information is shown on each page you will enter a hyperlink on each page to take you back to the previous page, and a hyperlink to return you to the homepage. Today on each web page you will enter a line near the top of the page containing the following.
Locate a picture for each of you class pages. Save it in your web folder and then insert the picture into your page.

To insert the current date and time choose [Insert] from the menu bar and then choose [Date and Time] from the drop-down menu. The top of this web page shows what this line should look like. If you do this on one page, you can then highlight the line, then use Control + C to copy it, and then use Control + V to paste it into each of your pages.
When your website is up to date and contains all the required page and hyperlinks, you may work on making your pages more elaborate.
04 Apr 2005 Monday (Day 05 of 4th quarter)
Use the New Page icon to create a new page and name it "Site Map Page". Create a hyperlink on the Home page to the site map page.
The site map page should have each and every page in your website listed in alphabetical order, with a hyperlink to each page.
To make your site map page more useful each page may have more than one entry. For example, the About Me page may have another entry on the site map page called "Information about the author", which will also provide a hyperlink to the About Me page.
You should have at least 14 entries in your site map page, one for each of the pages listed in the assignment for yesterday. Also you should create an entry and a hyperlink to any pictures you have entered into your website.
From this point on each time you add a page you need to also add a hyperlink in your site map page to the newly created page
After you have created a site map page, you will create a Sports and Entertainment page where you will list you favorite sports and entertainments. Add a hyperlink to this new page from the Home page and also from the site map page.
Also today you will learn how to create a Dynamic Link Effect. Click the instructions on How to Create a Dynamic Effect Effect and follow the instructions.
05 Apr 2005 Tuesday (Day 06 of 4th quarter)
Yesterday you learned how to created Dynamic Effects on a web page, and you learned about a site map page. You also should have created a Sports and Entertainment page.
Today you will learn how to check your hyperlinks without having to look at each one, one at a time. To learn about viewing your hyperlinks all at once, click here for the information on how to view all your hyperlinks. You will do this with your website and see how it is linked. You will also learn how to find web pages that are not linked. Unlinked web pages are AKA orphaned pages. Click here for information on finding web pages that have been created, but not linked to any other page in your website. After reading the instruction check your web to see if you have any orphaned pages.
After checking all hyperlinks and checking for orphaned pages, create a page called "My Favorites" and provide a hyperlink to it from your home page. Remember to use Save As to save it. This is the page you will use to list your favorite websites on the internet. Add some hyperlinks to various websites into the My Favorites page. Then continue working on your sports and entertainment page.
To add an internet website to your "My Favorites" page, copy the URL of the site and paste it on your page.
06 Apr 2005 Wednesday (Day 07 of 4th quarter)
Catch-up day. Work on your existing pages to make them look better. Be sure that all required pages have been created and that they are hyperlinked correctly. Add links to your My Favorites page. (A neat picture of spirals that could make a good background for a webpage)

07 Apr 2005 Thursday (Day 08 of 4th quarter)
Today you will learn how to insert a table into a web page. The table will become a seating chart for the computer room. Click here and to read about tables, and to get today's assignment. The assignment will be found near the bottom of the page.
08 Apr 2005 Friday Day (09 of 4th quarter)
Learn the terms background and watermarks. Today you will learn to insert a background picture into a web page. Click here for instructions on inserting a background picture. There is a link at the bottom of the background instructions to another background page that is a lot easier to read since the background image was adjusted by lightening the image using Microsoft Image Composer.
Open your website in Front Page in the normal manner. Use the New Page icon to create a new page and name it "Example of a Background in a Web Page." Save it as "Background page" and make a link to it from your home page, and from the Site Map Page. On this new page insert your picture as a background. Add enough text and/or blank lines so that the scrollbar will be visible when viewed in Internet Explorer. Choose a font that is easily readable over the background. Save the page. Use the New Page icon to create a new page and name it "Example of a Watermarked Background." Save it as "Watermarked Background" and provide a hyperlink to it from your home page. Insert a background photograph but this time follow the instructions for making the background a watermark. Once again make the page long enough so that the scrollbar will be needed. Add some text and also insert a few pictures into this page. Put the photographs in a vertical column, not side by side.. Center the inserted photographs. Save the page again and any other pages as needed. View you website using the Preview Tab, or with Internet Explorer, to check that the hyperlinks from your home page, and from the Site Map Page, to your two new background pages work, and also so you can see the effect of watermarking a background. You will not notice anything if the page is not long enough to have the scroll bar visible.
11 Apr 2005 Monday (Day 10 of 4th quarter)
Today's assignment is to create a 3 column header page using the instructions provided on the instruction page, and to learn about using thumbnail images. Click here for instructions on creating a 3 column header page. The thumbnail creating information page is available from a hyperlink in the page of instructions for the 3 column header page. Read the instructions before attempting to create the page.
Use this new page to create a web page about your 3 favorite music groups using one column for one group. The title of this page must be "My Favorite Music Groups". Save this page using Save As with the name of "Music3ColumnPage" You may list songs you like and information about the members of the group. You should insert hyperlinks to the band's website. You may enter pictures of each group but make them into thumbnail so it will fit in the column. If you use a photo you must save it to your web folder, do not link it to an internet site. Also you must give credit to the site that provided the picture. (Your choice of groups will probably not be the same as mine. I probably would have chosen The Grateful Dead, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin) Have fun with this assignment. Remember to save the page and then create hyperlinks to the new page from the home page and from the site map page, and from your Sports and Entertainment page.
12 Apr 2005 Tuesday (Day 11 of 4th quarter)
Since many of you did not complete your 3
column page you may continue working on it. Make sure your 3
column page is complete with all 3 groups. Each group
should have at least one picture made into a thumbnail.
Each group should have a hyperlink
to their web site, if one exists. Also you should include information about why
you like this group. Remember to provide credit
for each picture you have used.
13 Apr 2005 Wednesday (Day 12 of 4th quarter)
Part 1 for today.
Today you will learn to enter a scrolling marquee into a web page. Click here for the general instructions about using a marquee. Use the New Page Icon to create a new page called "My Marquee Page" and save it with the same name. Create a hyperlink to it from the home page, and from the site map page. Following the instructions for entering a marquee, enter a marquee, then use Preview mode to view it. Add at least 20 more marquees to the page with different properties. Experiment with these on the marquee page, then enter a marquee on you about me page and on several other pages of your website. Be creative.

Today we will learn about using a hover button in a web page.

Create a new page using the New Page Icon. Call it "Hover Button Page". Create hyperlinks to it from your Home page and from your Site Map page. Create at least 10 Hover buttons on this new page with hyperlinks to various pages of you web. Try to make each one different so you can see the different effects that can be created.

14 Apr 2005 Thursday (Day 13 of 4th quarter) (Click to see a neat type of picture)
Today you will create a photograph page where each photo is thumbnailed. Thumbnails can only be created for images that are stored in your computer. Create a new page called IRAQPICTURES1 and save it in a new folder in your web which will also be called IRAQPICTURES1. Insert a table with 3 rows and 4 columns. Find 12 pictures from the internet about the war in Iraq. Save each of these pictures to the new folder by right clicking in the picture and choosing Save Picture As and then saving the picture into your new folder called IRAQPICTURES1. Once you have 12 pictures saved you will insert each picture into one of the cells in the table you created in the IRAQPICTURES1 page. Do this by choosing [Insert] then [Picture] then [From File] and choose the IRAQPICTURES1 folder to select the pictures you just saved. As soon as you have inserted the picture into a cell in your table you should click in the middle of the picture you just inserted and choose auto thumbnail. Repeat the process until all 12 pictures have been placed in the table and all have been auto thumbnailed. Center each thumbnail in the cell. As usual, give credit for the pictures. Save the page and save the thumbnails in the IRAQPICTURES1 folder when asked. Create a hyperlink to this new page in your home page, and from the Site Map page.
15 Apr 2005 Friday Day (14 of 4th quarter) Today you will learn how to create a web page that works like a small slide show. It is called a Banner Ad Page. It could be used by a company to display various items for sale. Click here for a demo page. Click here for instructions.
18 Apr 2005 Monday (Day 15 of 4th quarter)
This can be confusing. Read this several times and view the teacher's frames page before attempting to do this.
Create a new folder in your web folder called FramesPage1. Do this before opening front page.
Today we will create a frames web page. Do not use the New Page Icon to start a frames page. Instead click [File] then [New] then [Page] then choose the [Frames page] tab. Then choose the icon for [Banner and Content].
Use this if you do not have a FramesPage1 folder. Once you have created the page use [File] and [Save as] to save it in a new folder which you will create in your website folder. Use the new folder icon and call the new folder "FramesPage1".
Select the newly created folder and save your new blank frames page with the name of "FramesPage1".
Then click on [New page] in the Banner section (The top frame) and type "Banner of Frames Page 1 created on (Use today's date)" then use Save as to save it. Note that it will tell you that the page exists and ask if you want to replace it. The answer is yes. It will replace the page and then it will save the banner section. Note it is highlighted.
Click here to view a sample frames page. In this sample page you can see that the teacher created four new pages, or frames, and also used two existing pages for page 5 and page 6 of this frames web. You should create an initial page and save it, then a contents page and save it, then create a new page for the initial page and save it as the initial page. Then use the New Page Icon to create another page and save it as "FramesPage1Page1". Repeat this process until you have saved 4 pages in your FramesPage1 folder. Create hyperlinks in the normal manner from the left hand column. Save your work and view it. After viewing continue to add either new pages or hyperlinked pages until you have at least a dozen pages listed in your frames page. You can create hyperlinks to any of your existing pages or photographs. Hyperink to your new frames page from your homepage, your about me page and to your site map page.
A table can be set up to look a lot like a frames page. Click here for an example.
19 Apr 2005 Tuesday (Day 16 of 4th quarter)
Today is the 10th anniversary of the bombing in Oklahoma City.
Today you will create a new folder in your web folder called OKCFRAMESPAGE. Do this before opening Front Page.
Start a new frames page like you did yesterday. The banner will say OKC Bombing Frames Page. Save it as BannerOKC. The Initial page will contain a bit of information about the OKC bombing. Save it as InitialPageOKC. The contents frame will be saved as ContentsOKC.
All information for this frames page will be stored in the OKCFRAMESPAGE folder.
Add pages until you have 12 pages, including the initial page. Call these pages OKC1, OKC2, OKC3 etc.
Use the Internet to locate information and photographs about the OKC attack. Collect information so you can wind up with a total of 12 pages in your contents frame.
Locate at least 6 photographs of the the event. Put them in various pages.
Provide a page about the people who were convicted of the bombing, and tell what happened to these people.
Provide a page about any other events that have happened on April 19th.
20 Apr 2005 Wednesday (Day 17 of 4th quarter)
Create a new folder called NEWPOPE in your web folder before opening Front Page. Start a new frames page using [File] then [New] then [Page] then choose the [Frames page] tab. Then choose the icon for [Banner and Content].
Create at least 5 pages for information about the new Pope.
Provide pages about:
Initial page - General information about the new pope
Page 2 - Your opinion about the new pope
Page 3 - Your expectations about what the new pope should do for the church.
Page 4 - Some previous popes with the same name and info about them.
Page 5 - Pictures of the new pope.
Use pictures and other information. Provide the appropriate hyperlinks to the page from your homepage and your sitemap page.
BlankFramesPage You may open this
and copy all the files into your newly created NewPope folder. This
contains 12 files, a frames page main page, a banner, a contents frame, an
initial page, and 8 other pages that can be hyperlinked. Make changes to
the pages as desired.
21 Apr 2005 Thursday (Day 18 of 4th quarter)
Catch-up day. No new assignment for today. Make sure all three of your frames pages are working and contain the required information. Make sure that the hyperlinks and that you have given credit where credit is due.
We are about ready to start our main project which will be on a topic that both you and the teacher approve. Look over the list and send me an email with your proposed website. In the subject line of your email put your first and last names and the topic you would like to use for your main project. List a second choice also. Click here to see a list of potential topics for your website that the teacher has approved.

Today you will create a few web pages (At least 3 pages) about any topic you choose as long as it is not obscene, immoral, or otherwise offensive. You may use a frames page if you like. Create a new folder in you web for this series of pages. Call the folder "AuthorsChoice" and save everything relating to these pages in your new folder. Include information, comments, pictures, clip art, dynamic effects, and other website features that you have learned. Provide links to the page from the homepage, the about me page, and from the sitemap page.
We are about ready to start our main project which will be on a topic that both you and the teacher approve. Look over the list and send me an email with your proposed website. In the subject line of your email put your first and last names and the topic you would like to use for your main project. Click here to see a list of potential topics for your website that the teacher has approved.

It is now time to start our main project.
Reopen Front page and open your new web using [File] then [Open] then locate your new web in its new folder. All future work should go into your new web if it relates to your topic.
Create a home page for your new web. It should include the title of you web and your name. Provide a link to your new homepage from the index page.
Create a new Site Map page and save it. Provide a link to the Site Map page from the homepage.
Add a new page called "Why I chose this topic for my project." Give some information about your reasons for choosing this topic. Provide a link to this new page from your home page and from your Site map page.
Create a new page for listing all the sources you use for your information.
Start doing research for you project and remember to save the information into your new folder.
